Dog Rescued From Hoarder Escapes With Another Dog, Goes Missing For 60 Days

Laverne the Border Collie was one of the 50 rescued dogs who was pulled from filthy living conditions in a hoarder’s outdoor property in Canada, writes ilovemydogsomuch

All the rescued dogs were physically ill and mentally shut down when they were taken in by the staff at Victoria Humane Society. While most of the dogs gradually warmed up to the rescuers, Laverne was unable to get rid of her trauma.

It was a terrifying shock for the shelter when they learned that a scared Laverne had escaped her foster home, along with another Border Collie named Shirley. The workers spent days looking for the 2 pooches, but there was no sign of the duo. In spite of the frustrating lack of results from the search attempts, the workers were determined not to give up.

For over 2 months, the workers used thermal imaging technology to scan the wilderness for the dogs. They also used Bloodhounds and distributed hundreds of missing dog flyers, but it was a set of 5 cameras planted in the woods that finally enabled them to trace and capture the dogs in a trap!

The workers are not surprised to see that Laverne and Shirley have become best friends during their 61-day-long survival ordeal in the wild. They are still visibly petrified of humans and have never left each other’s side since their rescue. The workers are now looking into different avenues to rehabilitate this bonded pair and ensure they have better lives.
