Dog Left Heartbroken After The Baby Giraffe He Adopted Passes Away In His Arms

Hunter, the anti-poaching Belgian Malinois of The Rhino Orphanage, was instantly curious when the workers brought in a lifeless baby giraffe named Jazz, writes ilovemydogsomuch

The poor baby was found dying in the wild, abandoned by his mother due to a restricting genetic disorder. Even so, the vets wanted to give Jazz a fair chance to survive, and Hunter decided to watch over the weak foundling.

Over the next few days, Jazz was hooked up with IV fluids as he remained in a prolonged state of coma. Hunter was so distressed over Jazz’s situation that he literally stopped eating and began spending all his time caring for the baby giraffe.

Hunter’s prayers worked as Jazz opened his eyes soon! He was happy to see a nurturing dog looking out for him and begging him to survive. Gradually, Jazz began standing on his own and feeding on Acacia leaves. Jazz and Hunter were so happy in each other’s company and their story was nothing short of a magical fairy tale.

Sadly, after just 3 weeks, Jazz collapsed due to hemorrhaging in the brain as a result to his genetic illness. Poor Hunter sensed his friend’s end was near, and comforted the baby till he took his last breath. The dog didn’t leave the room for hours after Jazz’s death as he kept getting haunted by the memories of his little mate.

The workers say that they are trying their best to comfort Hunter, but the dog refuses to stop grieving. He simply isolates himself in a corner and sulks all day. While we are deeply saddened by the sad turn of events, we believe that Hunter made Jazz’s short life so much better with his love. We hope time heals Hunter’s broken heart and he finds his strength again. Rest in peace, sweet Jazz.
