Dachshund Stands Up To Mountain Lion After It Clenches Jaw Around Brother’s Face
Mijo, a 15-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, is still alive after a mountain lion attack, all thanks to his doggy brother, Winston, writes ilovemydogsomuch
The two little pups were in the backyard while visiting family in Evergreen, Colorado. Soon after, a young mountain lion who happened to be on their property ended up pouncing on Mijo and gripped him with its strong jaw.
Mijo was bitten on the head, suffering lacerations to the scalp and neck, and his eye was popped out of the socket.
While the encounter was no doubt terrifying, Winston refused to back down. He barked and charged at the mountain lion, forcing him to drop Mijo and run off.
Mijo’s mom, Lindsay Golden, rushed him to a local animal hospital as soon as she realized what happened. Unfortunately, Mijo ended up losing his right eye in the attack and may also have some neurological issues that he will need more testing for. But X-rays revealed that he miraculously had no skull fractures.
“It is an absolute miracle that this little guy is still alive,” Mijo’s family wrote on GoFundMe. “There is no reason one bite from a mountain lion shouldn’t have killed him.
“He could have easily been carried off, he could have easily suffered a broken back, neck, or a fractured skull,” they continued. “There is no reason that a wiener dog could have chase off a mountain lion in the middle of an attack. Yet, here he is.”
All thanks to little Winston!
In the meantime, Mijo is healing and is thrilled to be back home with his best friend and savior, Winston.
