Veterinarian Discovers Distressing Cause Of 9-Month Old Pup’s Sudden Seizures

Abbi Taylor loves her 9-month-old puppy, Dixie, writes ilovemydogsomuch

She felt safe leaving the pup alone in the family’s fenced-in backyard while she ran some errands. Dixie loved hanging out in the back where she would run away, sniff, and wait for her family to return. Abby was at work recently and came home to find her beloved Dixie having one seizure after another. Taylor immediately scooped her dog up, rushed her to the vet, and got her emergency treatment. However, the seizures were just the beginning of the nightmare for Abbi and her family.

Since the family was not home and did not have any surveillance camera, they have no idea when the dog first showed signs of injury or how long she suffered. While at the emergency hospital, the veterinarian on call revealed Dixie had been shot three times with a pellet gun. The rounds are called “diablo” pellets, and the sheriff says they are common in airsoft guns. Dixie was in a fully fenced-in yard when she was shot, and there was no evidence of a break-in.

“It’s scary to think that in a subdivision, especially in a small community, you have to worry about keeping your dogs outside,” Abbi stated. “Something just hit somebody and they’re like okay, I’m going to shoot this dog today. You know, you never know what’s going to happen.”

Abbi sought opinions on what to do from multiple veterinarians, but due to her injuries and seizures, she decided to allow Abbi to pass through peaceful euthanasia. Ada County Detectives are investigating as of this writing to try and determine who would inflict this horror on an innocent puppy and her family. Anyone with information is urged to contact Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790. We extend our deepest condolences to the Taylor family.
