Shelter Staff Arrives To Find Tiny Pup Shivering In A Box Outside Front Gate
Someone put a tiny puppy in a box and left it in the freezing cold outside the front gate of an San Antonio animal shelter in Texas, writes ilovemydogsomuch
Although abandoning any animal is cruel, the fact that this person at least left her at a shelter saved her life. If she wasn’t found in the morning when staff arrived at Animal Care Services, the pup most likely would have perished in the cold from hypothermia.
When a staff member discovered the box, they saw a note on it and opened it up to find the puppy anxiously jumping around.
They quickly brought the puppy inside to warm her up and give her food and water. One of their rescue partners, Animal Defense League of Texas, heard about the puppy and agreed to take her in.
The pup, now named Charlie, will remain with them until she is old enough to be adopted.
“Although Charlie is safe now, whoever dumped her did not follow the correct process for getting help for a pet – owned or stray,” City of San Antonio Animal Care Services wrote on Facebook. “In her time spent in the cardboard box, who knows what could’ve happened to threaten her safety.”
“This is a reminder for those who find themselves unable to care for a pet: please do the right thing. ACS is here to help and there are processes in place to keep you and the pet safe. If you are helping a stray pet, please make a report with 311. If you need assistance with an owned pet, please reach out to us.”
Thankfully Charlie is safe and much warmer now. She will soon have a loving family of her own and won’t have to worry about being abandoned like that ever again.
