Starved Dog “Within One Hour Of Death” Breaks Free Of Heavy Chain & Seeks Help
A Pit Bull on the verge of death was rescued within one hour of his demise. The animal is safe and sound, but he almost didn’t make it, writes ilovemydogsomuch
The dog was emaciated and tethered to a heavy chain when he somehow managed to break free from the nightmare and walk to a neighbor’s house in Pike Road, Alabama.
“They just looked at the animal as disposal object,” according to PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) President Laura Baumgardner.
The pup’s name is Truman and he is estimated to be around three years old. He should weigh 75 pounds but his current weight is a mere 44 pounds. The veterinarian treating Truman, Dr. Mickey Golden, believes he had been starved for a very long period of time.
According to a post in the P.A.W.S. of Alabama public Facebook group, “He still has a long way to go, but we are so thankful for the signs of improvement we are seeing!”
Truman is getting much-needed care for his deplorable condition including an infestation of worms. The poor pup was so exhausted and barely alive that when he was placed on the exam table, his head hung over.
In the state of Alabama, animal cruelty is considered a felony. There is no further information on charges or an arrest as of this writing, but the goal is for Truman to be adopted out eventually into a new loving home.
